A 53-year-old motorist who admitted driving at 65mph along Victoria Avenue said he did not realise how fast his new Mercedes was.
Carl Martin Le Quesne committed the offence on 3 June. The road has a 40mph speed limit.
He admitted speeding when he appeared in the Magistrate鈥檚 Court but told the court: 鈥淚t was a new car. I didn鈥檛 realise how quick it would be.鈥
The Relief Magistrate, Sarah Fitz, accepted that it was Le Quesne鈥檚 first offence.
She fined him 拢500 and endorsed his licence, so that it will bear a record of the offence.
