Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer goes undercover to sell the Big Issue

Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer went undercover on Monday to help sell the Big Issue magazine.

Wearing a flat cap and the red Big Issue tabard, he tried his hand at selling the magazine in London鈥榮 Tottenham Court Road alongside seller Andre Rosant.

Dyer told the Big Issue he was surprised by how many passers-by failed to recognise him, instead rushing past with heads down 鈥 an experience which Andre, who usually sells at a pitch in nearby Carnaby Street, said he is all too familiar with.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of very kind people out there,鈥 Dyer told the Big Issue.

鈥淚 understand they were probably buying because of who I am 鈥 I was signing a few copies and stuff.

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 really interesting to be out here on the streets.

鈥淭here鈥檚 not a lot of money about from anybody, everyone鈥檚 struggling at the moment, so I鈥檓 really happy we sold a few, I didn鈥檛 think we鈥檇 sell one, so I鈥檓 over the moon, I鈥檓 buzzing.鈥

Rosant added: 鈥淒anny made a good stab at selling it.

鈥淏ut as enormously famous as he is, still people walked past and ignored him.

鈥淭he expression on his face when people did walk past, and tried to ignore him or avoid him, was interesting, because I鈥檓 sure he鈥檚 not used to being ignored or avoided.鈥

Dyer has committed his support for the Big Community, a new Big Issue campaign to demand more action on poverty.
